LEWISTON – Jack E. French, 82, of Lewiston, died Sunday, Nov. 19, at Marshwood Center for Health Care and Rehabilitation.
He was born in Auburn, May 16, 1924, the son of Lucian and Marguerite (Haynes) French.
He graduated from Edward Little High School in 1942.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served until 1946, when he was honorably discharged. He then attended Burdett Business College in Boston and graduated in 1948.
He went to work for Bates Manufacturing Company in 1949 and worked until 1960, when he decided to help manage McGee’s Market with his wife, Eileen. They owned the market until 1966. He then returned to Bates Mill and retired as production manager in 1987.
His kind manner and wonderful sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include sons, Dana French of Minot, Richard French and wife, Leona, of Sabattus, Andrew French of Lewiston; a daughter, Willow Williams and husband, Foris, of Gorham; and a sister, June Macleod of Pittsfield, Mass. He also leaves five cherished grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Eileen McGee French; his sister, Ruth; an identical twin brother, Jay; and a younger brother, David.
