LEWISTON – John F. Casper Jr., 83, of 10 Oak Park, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 17, at d’Youville Pavilion.

He was born in Rumford on Jan. 25, 1923, the son of John and Justine (Dragoon) Casper Sr. He attended Rumford High School and graduated in 1942.

He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served in the Asiatic Pacific offensive during World War II, and was discharged in 1946 as a military policeman.

He worked at Oxford Paper for 20 years on the super calendar operations. He later worked at Pioneer Plastics for 20 years in the fabrication room.

He leaves behind his wife, Betty Jean (King) Casper, who he married on June 11, 1949; his children, William John Casper and his wife, Louise, John Casper III, Carol Hanna, Arlene Casper, and Barbara Casper, all of Lewiston, Marie Wade of N. Turner, and Geneva Varney and her husband, Fred, of Turner; his grandchildren, David Hanna, Andrew Hanna, Amy Casper, Dawn Feldman and husband, Scott, Peter Wade and wife, Jennifer, Jeffrey Wade, Crystal St. Pierre, Jacob Casper, Samantha Casper, Kassara Varney and Todd Casper, who he was especially proud of for being in the U.S. Army, and who has just recently returned from Afghanistan after incurring an injury while on patrol.

He is also survived by his great-granddaughter, Abigail Casper, who just celebrated her second birthday on Nov. 17.

He was predeceased by his brother, Walter Casper.
