NORWAY – Maurice E. LaCroix, 90, of LaCroix Road, West Peru, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center.

He was born May 10, 1916, in Lewiston, the son of Attorney Edward and Marie L. (Michaud) LaCroix. He was a graduate of Salem Classical High School in 1934 in Salem, Mass. He served four years in the U.S. Army, three of which was with the Medical Corps during World War II, stationed in Germany.

After being discharged from the Army, he fulfilled a lifelong dream of having a farm on the end of a long “dead end” road. He married Betty Leader and they purchased a farmhouse and 400-plus acres in West Peru, which they farmed for more than 50 years. In his later years, he and his son, Maurice Jr. worked on their woodlot, cutting timber, firewood and pulp.

He was a very handy individual, always able to complete any task. He was especially proud of his herd of polled herefords.

He once held the position of zoning officer for the town of West Peru and served as a constable.

He is survived by his daughter, Meriese Tiner, and her husband, Robert Jr., of Poland Spring; a son, Maurice Jr. of West Peru; two sisters, Marie Yvette Raymond and Doris Broughton of Rumford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents; and his wife, Betty.

The family wishes to extend their thanks and gratitude to Androscoggin Home Health and Norway Rehabilitation and Living Center for the excellent care and support given to Maurice and his family.
