FARMINGTON – Joseph Norbert Waite, 79, of Farmington, died Tuesday, Nov. 14, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 14, 1926, in Mexico, the son of Joseph and Albina Waite. He graduated from Mexico High School in 1944 before serving in the U.S. Navy for 20 months. He graduated from Bliss Business College of Lewiston in 1949, where he was captain of both the basketball and baseball teams. He was also elected the president of the Bliss Athletic Council. On June 16, 1949, he married Glynnese Farrington in Poland Spring.
He worked for the Morton Motor Co. of Farmington for 20 years as an office manager and bookkeeper. He also worked for Knowlton & McLeary Co. Printers in Farmington for 15 years as treasurer and a cost estimator.
He was past commander of the Roderick Crosby Post 28 American Legion of Farmington, the former Chef de Gare of the Franklin County 40 and 8 Veterans Group, past treasurer and president of the Farmington Ski Club, past treasurer of the Wilson Lake Country Club and past treasurer of the Farmington Lions Club. He loved most sports, whether it be as a participant or as a spectator.
He is survived by his wife, Glynnese who resides at Sandy River Center for Health Care; two daughters, Sandra W. Haskell, and her husband, Ric, of Farmington and Brenda J. Landry, and her husband, Scott, of Wilton; a son, Stephen J. Waite of Rockland; three grandchildren, Casey Philbrick of Portland, Jessica Bartholemew of Pennsylvania and Renee Landry of San Francisco; two stepgrandchildren, Seth and Brooks Landry; a sister, Doris Jalotta of Vermont; a brother, Eddie Waite, and his wife, Vi, of Mexico; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was predeceased by a brother, Howard; and two sisters, Beatrice Rinaldo and Viola Paltanawick.
