NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. – Thomas Behrman, 30, of Rangeley, died Saturday, Nov. 4, in New York City, N.Y.

He was born in Ann Arbor, Mich., on Aug. 3, 1976. His childhood was spent in Brittany, France, in the small village of Poilley. Indeed, his earliest memory was riding through the countryside surrounding Poilley in a carrier on the back of his cyclist father, Daniel Behrman.

He moved to Rangeley in 1985, and attended the Rangeley Lakes Regional School. He attended Phillips Academy, Andover, graduating in 1994. He then went to the University of California, Berkeley, where he studied English literature.

He wrote short stories, several novels and many poems. He was interested in philosophy, psychoanalysis and attended Dusquesne University, where he was pursuing a doctorate in psychology.

He is survived by his mother, Madeleine de Sinéty-Behrman; a brother, Peter Behrman; many other family members and friends in America and France.
