PORTLAND – Surrounded by her family and friends, Marcia Anne (Kennedy) Rawson passed away at Maine Medical Center, Monday, Oct. 9, after a 7-year battle with Primary Pulmonary Hypertension.
She was born Marcia Anne Langill on Dec. 6, 1943, to the late Barbara Dandeneau and the late James Burton. She attended Portland schools and received her GED at the age of 26. For 20 years, she worked for Marshall’s in South Portland, before retiring due to her disease. She also did volunteer work for Seniors Plus in Lewiston. In August 2001, she wed the love of her life, William Rawson in a beautiful ceremony that took place in Lisbon.
Despite having PPH, she liked to live life to the fullest. Bill and she loved the outdoors and were constantly on the go camping. She was a fantastic dart player and was a member of the Central Maine Dart League.
She loved gardening, crafts, and her computer friends, but above all, she loved her family. She was an incredible mom, wife, grandmother and friend and has often times been described as the “glue” that held her family together. Her sense of humor was incredibly wicked at times, and even during her last days, she still managed to make those around her laugh. Her family will be forever thankful for the time that was shared with her … she will be missed more than words can say.
Surviving are her husband and soul mate, William Rawson of Auburn; sisters, Beverly Crooks of Ohio and Norma Douglas of Florida; brothers, James Langill of Westbrook and David Langill of Florida; her daughter and best friend, Brenda (Kennedy) Snyder, and her husband, Gabriel, of Maryland; her sons, John Young of Westbrook, Stephen Young of Auburn and Robert Young, and his wife, Betsy, of Vermont; her grandsons, Marc and Hunter of Maryland and Robert Young of Portland; her granddaughters, McKenna and Grace of Maryland and Hailey and Paige of Vermont; and countless friends.
Aside from her parents, she was predeceased by her eldest son, Jeffrey Young; and a sister, Joanne Needham.
Marcia’s family would like to extend their thanks to those at Maine Medical for helping honor her wishes and for the caring and sensitivity that they displayed at a very difficult time.
