FARMINGTON – Kenneth A. Norton Sr., 87, of Farmington, died at his home on the Holley Road, Thursday, Sept. 28, with his family by his side.
He was born May 15, 1919, on Woodcock Hill, Farmington, the son of the late Roy and Enzie Norton. He attended schools locally. He married Hannah Ray Wing of New Sharon on June 4, 1937.
They resided with his parents on the Holley Road until he purchased his own land and home, where he spent the rest of his life. Hannah died Oct. 1, 1944, leaving him with their three young sons.
He married Glennis Brimigion in West Farmington on Feb. 2, 1946. Together they raised their children.
He worked for Bill Gould on the farm, Smiths Novelty Mill in New Vineyard, then learned to hand sew shoes at Bass Shoe. For 27 months he was employed at the Portland Shipyard as a welder. Returning to West Farmington, he worked driving trucks for Forster’s Mill at Strong, until it burned. He helped with the cleanup and went back to hand sewing for 25 years at the Bass Shoe Co.
The best time of his life was working with his steers and his “family cow.” Really a “farmer at heart,” he enjoyed showing and pulling his steers at the fair, especially Fryeburg, for more than 20 years.
He is survived by his wife, Glennis, of Farmington; four sons, Dennis, and his wife, Margaret, of Brazoria, Texas, Clifton, and his wife, Evie, of Farmington, Duane, and his wife, Cindy, of Farmington and Bruce and Maria, of France; his daughter, Donalyn, of Port Richey, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two sons, Keith in 1975 and Kenneth A. Jr. (Timmy) in 1948; and four brothers, Vincent, Phillip, Wendell and Maurice.
