GREENE – John L. Forrest Jr., 51, of Greene died peacefully Wednesday, Sept. 27, at his residence with his family by his side after a valiant battle with cancer.
He was born in Lewiston on Oct. 19, 1954, the son of John L. and Pauline Langlais Forrest. He attended local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1973, where he played football and baseball.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1974 to 1978. Upon discharge he was employed by Allied Medical Services (the family business) and became owner and president in 1986. In 2000, he founded Allied Wheelchair Service. He was also employed as a rural letter carrier for the town of Winthrop from 1986 until present.
His greatest pride and joy other than his children was his dedication as a football coach starting with fly football, where he was a head coach from 1978 to 1986, and Lewiston Middle School from 1986 to 2001. Most recently he was the head coach at Maranacook High School from 2001 to 2004 retiring due to ill health. His passion was evident every fall as he yearned to get out on the gridiron and share his knowledge of not just football, but life as well.
He married the former Dale Warner on July 10, 2004.
