STAFFORD, Conn. – Howard A. Slauenwhite of Enfield, died Monday, July 24.

He was born in Monmouth on July 20,1923.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the National Weather Service (formerly the U.S. Weather Bureau) in August 1980, after 38 years of Federal Service. He was employed by Fiore Olds, Inc. from August 1980 through March 1991.

He volunteered at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, Mass. for six years, finally to retire completely in 1998. He was a communicant of Holy Family Catholic Church, having served many years as an extraordinaire minister of the eucharist.

He was an honorary life member of the John Maciolek Post 154 of the American Legion, serving as an officer of the post for many years. He was also a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A former member of the Enfield Veterans Council he was still active as co-chairman of the parade.

He is survived by a son, Richard of Torrington, Conn.; daughter, Judy Baccielo, her husband, Daniel, and two grandchildren, Theresa Marie and Daniel Joseph of Stratford, Conn.

He was predeceased by his wife, Yvette in May 2005.
