CAPE ELIZABETH – John D. Lebeda, 58, of Cape Elizabeth, died Tuesday, July 4, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 18, 1948, in Portland, a son of Joseph and Mary Catherine (Foley) Lebeda, attended local schools, and was a 1970 graduate of Portland High School.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1967 to 1968 in Vietnam, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart. After his military service, he worked for the United States Postal Service for more than 20 years.
On June 4, 1985, he married the former Charlotte Stanton in Portland.
He is survived by his wife, Charlotte of Cape Elizabeth; his children, daughters, Christine M. Lebeda of Lewiston and Theresa Lynn Briscoe of Cape Elizabeth; sons, John J. Lebeda of Westbrook, David R. Brown of Gorham, Clifford Brown of Missouri and John A. Staples of Cape Elizabeth; a sister, Mrs. Theresa A. (Lebeda) Deschenes of Lewiston; several nieces and nephews, including Mrs. Barbara Czarkowski of Lewiston and Mr. Steven Kneeland of Broad Brook, Conn. and Mr.William P. Deschenes Jr. of Lewiston; and 15 grandchildren.
He was predeceased by both parents; and four brothers, Joseph, Michael, Joseph and Daniel.
