Auburn – James C. Miller, 89, a resident of Riverview Road in Jay, died Wednesday, July 5, at Hospice House after a long illness.

He was born in North Vassalboro on Nov. 12, 1916, the son of William H. and Mary (Dougherty) Miller and attended Cony High School in Augusta. On Oct. 14, 1940, he married the former Elvina Luciano at St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for International Paper Co., Otis Mill in the beater room as a colorman and later transferred to the Androscoggin Mill, where he worked as a paper tester, retiring in 1983.

He was a member of the I.P. Quarter Century Club, the North American Camping Association and was a charter member of the Maine Rovers Camping Association. He was a former constable for the town of Livermore Falls.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years of Jay; two sisters and their husbands, Helen and Robert Given of Augusta and Ruth and Frank Labato of North Hampton, Mass.; a granddaughter, Shelley Riiska and her husband, Scott, of Gorham; and a grandson, Shawn Miller and his wife, Sue, of Eliot; five great-grandchildren, Shawn Miller, Scott Miller, Calvin Riiska, Alice Riiska and Quinton Riiska.

He was predeceased by two sons, Paul R. Miller in 1994 and Peter Miller in 1968; two brothers, William Miller and John Miller; and his twin sister, Connie Belanger.
