Mexico – John Law passed away at home on Monday, July 3. He was a gentle soul who was a devoted family man.
He graduated from Mexico High School, Class of 1940. He then graduated from Hebron Academy two year Preparatory Program in 1942.
He spent three years in the Army, serving in Papua/New Guinea, the Philippines, and Japan. He returned home in January 1946. On April 27, 1946, he married his high school sweetheart, Elizabeth “Betty” Dawson.
He was employed for 43 years at the Oxford Paper Co., retiring in 1984. He enjoyed family gatherings, especially when they were in his honor. He said that “his face hurt from smiling” so much at his retirement party, his 50th wedding anniversary party, and last April at his 60th wedding anniversary celebration.
He enjoyed being active throughout his life. He swam, boated, and skied with his children and wife while they were young. After his children were grown, he took up golf and motorcycling. He displayed for years his special Father’s Day cards, including one that said he was a Dad “born to be a little wild.” We have lost our hero.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, father-in-law and friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
