LEWISTON – Genevieve L. Palmer, licensed nursing attendant., 80, died Friday, June 16, with her family by her side at the Central Maine Medical Center. Formerly a longtime resident of Norway, she had lived at Clover Health Care on Minot Avenue, Auburn, since November 2005.
She was born at home in Jay on Oct. 21, 1925, the daughter of Wesley and Helen (Cole) Spear. She graduated from Jay High School, Class of 1944, and graduated from St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing in Lewiston, Class of 1947.
She formerly worked as a licensed nursing attendant at the Franklin County Memorial Hospital and later at Stephens Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed volunteering for the Hospital Thrift Shop and for many years volunteered with the local Alzheimer’s Organization. She received the Angel Award for her work with R.S.D. HOPE. She was very committed to her family and friends and had a passion for cooking and the Boston Red Sox.
Genevieve was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by her family and friends.
She was married in Wilton on Aug. 24, 1957, to the late Ernest A. Palmer Jr., who died in South Paris on Dec. 1, 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Beth-Ann Heath and husband, Alan, of West Paris; a son, Ernest A. Palmer III and companion, Laurel Poliquin, of Oxford; a stepson, Wendall Palmer and wife, Ellen, of Dixfield; a brother, Ervin Robinson and wife, Carollee, of Augusta; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
