RUMFORD – Lillian E. Cohen, 89, died Tuesday, June 13, at the Rumford Community Home. Since 2004, she had resided at Schooner Estates in Auburn, and was formerly of Rumford, Worcester, Mass., and Tamarac, Fla., for many years.
She was born in Portland, on Sept. 2, 1916, the daughter of John and Frances (Richardson) Bronstein. She graduated from Stephens High School in Rumford, Class of 1934, and from Boston University, Class of 1936, with her degree in business.
She was employed in the family business as a secretary at Bronstein and Cohen Scrap Metal in Mexico, for many years, until her retirement in 1981.
She was a member of the Rumford Community Hospital Auxiliary, the Mt. Zircon Chapter 142, O.E.S., Rumford and Tamarac, Fla., Duplicate Bridge clubs, the Greater Rumford Garden Club, member of W.O.W., past member of the Board of Trustees of the Rumford Public Library, member of the Congregation Beth Abraham in Auburn, former member of the Ladies Bowling Leagues of Rumford and Tamarac, Fla., and member of Rumford Book Club. She had volunteered at the Hospice Care Unit at Tamarac, Fla. She contributed to many activities to benefit scleroderma research over the years. She enjoyed playing bridge and she loved her family.
She was married in Dorchester, Mass., on Oct. 15, 1939 to Louis W. Cohen, who died in Rumford on Oct. 2, 1983.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Joyce Kass and husband, Arthur, of Worcester, Mass.; a son, Dr. Jerrold Cohen, D.M.D., and his wife, Jennifer, of Rumford; four grandchildren, Beth Atkinson and her husband, Michael, of Townsend, Mass., Daniel Kass and his wife, Sarah, of Attleboro, Mass., Julie Cohen and her husband, David Smith, of Reading, England and Matthew Cohen and his wife, Reetu Dandora, of Philadelphia, Pa.; four great-grandchildren, Lewis and Olivia Kass of Attleboro, Mass. and Jaiden and Rishi Cohen of Philadelphia, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. Beverly Bodansky and her husband, David, of Seattle, Wash.; and a brother, Sewall Bronstein of Humarock, Mass.
