RUMFORD – Jeannette C. “Sandy” Mayo, 82, of Dunton Street, died Wednesday, May 24, at Rumford Community Home after a long illness.

She was born in Rumford on March 9, 1924, a daughter of Leo and Alice (Sutton) Cyr. She was educated in Rumford schools and was a graduate of Stephens High School, Class of 1943.

She was a communicant of St. Athanasius and St. John Catholic Church. She was a member of the Rumford Mothers Club, the Oakdale Country Club, the Bomberette Bowling League and a charter member of the Eagles Auxiliary.

She was a dental assistant for Dr. D.W. Swallow for 17 years. She was a loving wife, mother, sister and grandmother. She loved fly fishing, animals, gardening and oil painting.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Theodore E. “Ted” Mayo of Rumford; five sons, Jeffrey A Mayo and wife, Beth, of Rumford, Thomas T. Mayo and wife, Pam, of Cornville, Marc J. Mayo and wife, Charlotte, of Rumford, Lee N. Mayo of Virginia and Jon K. Mayo and wife, Karolyn, of Oregon; two daughters, Pamela J. Lyons of Caribou and Shannon B. David and husband, John, of Rumford; a brother, Albert Cyr and wife, Louise, of Spokane, Wash.; eight grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Leo E. “Cebum” Cyr; a sister, Lorraine S. Bourassa; and a grandson, Michael Gallant.

The family would like to offer a special thank you to Dr. Thomas DeLuca, the Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice, the Rumford Hospital and the Rumford Community Home for the loving and compassionate care they gave to Jeannette throughout her illness.
