1922 – 2009
LEWISTON — Irene S. Newcomb, 87, of Norway died Oct. 11, in Lewiston.
She was born in the Porter neighbourhood in West Paris, Jan. 6, 1922, the daughter of Matti and Annie (Korhonen) Schroderus and was educated in West Paris schools, graduating from West Paris High, Class of 1940. She married George W. Newcomb on March 7, 1942, he died May 10, 1975.
She was a member of the Mt. Hope Rebeckas for 49 years, a member of the VFW Auxiliary in Norway, a member of the Oxford County Fair, Stephens Memorial Auxiliary and the Finnish American Heritage Society of West Paris.
She is survived by one daughter, Shirley Huff and her husband, Charles; one son, William Newcomb and his wife, Libby Sciacchitano; one grandson, Scott Huff and his wife, Laurie and their twins, Anna and Emily; one granddaughter, Jennifer Sherbinski and her husband, Matthew and their sons, Payton and Cameron; two sisters, Tyyne Bemis of Fairfield, Calif., and Anna Welch and her husband, Charles, of South Windsor, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, George W. Newcomb; one brother, William F. Schroderus; and two sisters, Lila Walker and Irja Roux.
