GRAY, Ga. – Raymond Joseph Denis, 66, of Gray, Ga., formerly of Lewiston, died unexpectedly on Monday, Feb. 13, in Gray, Ga.

He was born in Lewiston on April 26, 1939, the son of Jules and Juliette D’Amour Denis of Lewiston. He attended schools in Lewiston and joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17. Following four years of duty with the Navy, Ray joined the U.S. Army, where he served for 14 more years, with tours of duty in Germany, Korea and Japan, and volunteered for two tours of duty in Vietnam. Toward the end of his military career, he was a photographer for Stars and Stripes Magazine.

He was a jack-of-all-trades, having been employed in the Lewiston-Auburn area as a welder, carpenter, locksmith, photographer, security guard and part-time police officer with the Livermore Falls Police Department, prior to moving to Georgia three years ago. There, he was employed as a security guard. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping, fishing, hunting and gold panning.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Denis of Georgia; daughters, Nicole Denis of Auburn, Jacquie Keale of Illinois and Julie of Georgia; one son, Raymond J. Denis Jr. of Georgia; one sister, Janine Meservier and her husband, Lionel of Lewiston; and several nieces and nephews.
