LEWISTON – Ferdinand J. “Frenchy” Langlois, 69, of 257 Lisbon St., died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 13, at his residence.

He was born in Cornwall, Ontario, Canada, on May 31, 1936, the son of Josephus and Hermina Benoit Langlois. He grew up in Cornwall and attended the Nativity schools.

He migrated to Lewiston from Cornwall in the late 50s to work at the Continental Mill. He later attended barber school at the former Hansen’s Barber School on Lisbon Street and had owned and operated Frenchy’s Barber Shop for more than 40 years.

He was married July 4, 1964, to Gloria Labbe, who predeceased him May 8, 1996.

Frenchy loved the city of Lewiston and its people. He enjoyed the hustle and bustle of Lisbon Street, where he lived and worked and made many friends. He enjoyed music, playing guitar, keyboard and hanging out at Tim Hortons socializing with his friends.

He was very proud of his son, Dennis, who is serving in Iraq. Frenchy loved his family and grandchildren very much.

He was a lifetime member of the Pastime Club.

He is survived by two sons, Fernand Langlois and wife, Heidi, of Sabattus, and Dennis Langlois and wife, Lara, of Clarksville, Tenn.; five grandchildren, Christian and Hannah of Sabattus, Kelsey, Isabel and Laina of Clarksville, Tenn.; a sister, Rita Himbeault; and a brother, Florien Langlois, both of Cornwall, Ontario.
