PORTLAND – Marcia Bell died peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 4, in Portland with her family by her side.
She was born in Portland, the youngest of three children of Edward and Ida Finks. She moved to Lewiston in 1948, when she married Irving Bell.
She was a registered dietitian, and was appointed to Gov. Curtis’ Committee on Licensing, where she was instrumental in getting passed into law, mandatory licensing of dietitians in Maine.
Marcia was a lifelong member of Haddassah, Temple Shalom, and the Jewish Community Center, where she served a term as the first woman president.
She volunteered in the schools, selling Savings Bonds, and as a member of the PTA.
She loved traveling, and enjoyed playing golf, and spending time with her family, who will miss her very much, and remember her for tireless energy and fun-loving spirit.
She is survived by three children, Harvey and his wife, Elaine, of Turner, Edward and his wife, Peggy, of Massachusetts, and Diana, of Scarborough; she also has one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
