PROVIDENCE, R.I.. – Alan J. Smith, 57, of Attleboro, Mass., died Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2005, at Rhode Island Hospital after a long illness with cancer.

He was born in Farmington, the son of Lawrence M. and Alice S. Smith. He graduated from Oxford Hills High School and went to the University of Rhode Island.

He had retired from Sears in 2004 after working there for over 10 years.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Louise Annette, of Attleboro, Mass.; his brother, Glenwood Smith and his wife, Anna, of Norway; his nephews, Michael Smith, of Roxbury and Larry Smith and his wife, June, of Dixfield; his niece, Karen Tibbets and her husband, Allen, of Roxbury; and his great-niece, Jennifer Smith, of Dixfield.
