FARMINGTON – Wayne R. Atwood, 63, of New Vineyard, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Dec. 29, after a short battle with cancer.

He was born Sept. 5, 1942, in Avon, a son of Richard F. and Ola (McKechnie) Atwood. He attended New Vineyard and Farmington schools.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1964 and was stationed in Germany. He received an honorable discharge in July 1970.

He worked at International Paper in Jay until 1987, then at Chinet in Waterville, where he worked until his death.

He married Agnes Moran Lake on Jan. 30, 1971, and they made their home in New Vineyard. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing, and camping trips with his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 34 years of New Vineyard; a son, Steven Atwood and his companion, Joey Myers, of New Vineyard; two daughters, Sherrie Lake and her companion, Lee Marshall, of Rockport, and Shellie Lake Allen and her husband, Scott, of Wilton; three grandchildren, Damian Osgood, Danielle Neal and Jennell Allen; a sister, Barbara (Atwood) O’Neil and her husband, William, of Sandwich, Mass.; and a brother, Arnold Atwood of New Vineyard.

He was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Nolan Atwood.
