WILTON — An Industry manufacturer has decided not to seek a Community Development Block Grant to expand his business here, Town Manager Rhonda Irish told the Board of Selectpersons on Tuesday.
Jiu-Jitsu teacher Peter Roberts, owner of the OriginUSA apparel manufacturing company, had planned to come to the board Tuesday to seek approval for the town to file a letter of intent to apply for the grant.
CDBG money is awarded to local governments to assist businesses in creating or retaining jobs. The town applies for and administers the grant.
In other business, the board voted unanimously to authorize the town manager to sign a contract with Darryl Sterling who has been an economic and community development consultant for Wilton for over a year.
Sterling has worked with businesses and on grants, including the $400,000 downtown grant the town received, Irish said. He is working with business owners on a facade grant, she said.
Funding for the position is taken from the town’s Tax-Increment Financing District account.
Selectpersons also agreed to pursue a plow trade with Livermore, which has a spare. Wilton Highway Foreman Dale Roberts wants it and Livermore wants one Wilton has, she said.
The trade was also on the agenda for the Livermore board to discuss Tuesday, she said.
