CANTON — Selectmen on Thursday reviewed roads they’re considering closing, including some “like driveways or very short town roads,” Administrator Scotty Kilbreth said.
Four of the nine are Maxwell Farm, Hodge, Tom York and Cemetery roads.
“We’re looking to be more efficient; it would save time during snow operations,” Selectman Don Hutchins said.
Selectmen decided to wait before making a final decision on closures.
In other business, selectmen approved the second estimate with Northeast Document Conservation Inc. to restore the binding of the town’s 200-year-old book of historical documents, Book No. 1. The book is Canton’s oldest book of town records. The town was incorporated in 1821.
Kilbreth said Town Clerk Kathy Walker thought the second company “could do a better job” at fixing the binding.
Selectmen also received a letter from Canton Mountain Wind, an update for the windmill construction on Canton Mountain that began in August by Patriot Renewables LLC of Quincy, Massachusetts. The project is an eight-turbine, 22.8-megawatt operation set to begin commercial operations in December.
Hutchins said he wanted to set up a meeting with the Canton Mountain Wind representatives for more information about the project.
