AUBURN — Hugo Mark Sonagere, 88, passed away on Monday, March 6, at the Odd Fellows’ and Rebekahs’ Home of Maine.
He was born Jan. 12, 1929, to the late Alessandro and Pia (Satore) as one of seven children. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Army and was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. As a member of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Hugo served during the Korean War.
In 1953, he returned home and joined the Local Tile Union 77 out of Newark, N.J. In 1954, he married Egidia, and they began their family journey of 65 years together. He was devoted to his family and treasured his time and special moments with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid gardener who loved birds and animals.
Hugo is survived by his wife, Egidia (Romano) of 63 years; his son, Kenneth Sonagere and wife, Kathy; his daughter, Lisa Eckerson and husband, Willard; and grandchildren: Matthew, Alison, Kate and Melissa.
