LISBON FALLS — Dori Ann Galgovitch, 65, of Lisbon Falls went home to her Lord and earned her wings Sunday, March 12, at her home, surrounded by family, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Lewiston on June 8, 1951, a daughter of Roger and Madelyn (Doboga) Levesque Sr. She grew up in Lisbon and was a graduate of Lisbon High School, Class of 1969.
In her younger years, Dori worked in the Worumbo Mills in Lisbon and Lisbon Falls. She moved on to work in sales for Maine Poly in Greene for many years until its closing, which gave her an opportunity to reinvent herself and pursue working with people. Dori worked for years as an administrative assistant for Advocates for Children in Lewiston up until her diagnosis. She adored those she worked with and was especially proud and honored to coordinate the annual holiday festival for children year after year.
One of Dori’s amazing skills was to be one heck of a party planner. She also loved working in an environment that was for the better of women and children. During that time, she earned her CNA certificate and enjoyed working with the elderly part time. It gave her great comfort to help those in need.
Dori had so many accomplishments in her life and many followed her passions. In the early 1970s she was Maine’s commissioner for women’s slow pitch softball. She was a player for the Lisbon Lefties softball team and officiated field hockey games for local high schools. While her children were young, Dori was a field hockey coach for Lisbon High School for many, many years and a softball coach for Philip W. Sugg School. She was an athlete at heart and carried that love of sports throughout her life. Dori was an avid volunteer in her community, doing events at the Slovak Club, building award-winning Moxie parade floats, a CCD teacher for Holy Trinity Church, a church council member, choir member, a lector, a Boy Scout committee member, and merit badge counselor. Dori also followed her children’s passions, enduring hot summer days on BMX tracks and baseball fields, backstage work at dance recitals, Boy Scout campouts in the snow and cheerleading camps and competitions. She was a committed, supportive and loving mother and grandmother and her children and grandchildren loved her deeply.
She loved spending time on the water with her family all through her life while at Allen Pond, Deni and Kathy’s, the ocean here in Maine, her trips to Cape Cod and Virginia with Harry and Patti. Dori had countless memories with her sisters, brother, and those she was close enough to consider almost family and friends. Adventure rides, cousin gatherings having lobster, catching up with old friends and spending time with her family was her focus during her last year here. Dori enjoyed gardening, researching her family tree, being near the water and nature, planning parties, spending time with her kitties, hanging by the pool at Lynn’s, fires at LuLu’s, just being around family and thinking and doing for others before she ever would do for herself. She will be missed dearly by those who loved her.
She is survived by her mother, Madelyn Levesque of Lisbon Falls; her former husband, Richard Galgovitch of Lisbon Falls; her children; Darcy Wilcox of Lisbon, Deni Galgovitch and his wife, Kathy, of Topsham and Deanna Gordon and her husband, Matthew, of Wiscasset. She also leaves behind her siblings, Roger Levesque Jr. and his wife, Carol, of Durham, Deborah Purinton and her husband, Allan, of Durham, Lynette Thompson and her husband, Ralph, of Lisbon Falls, LuAnn Fleury of Lisbon Falls and Patti Moore and her husband, Harry, of Lisbon; along with her grandchildren; Drew, Caleb, Cody, Kayla and Lindsey; a sister-in-law and dearest friend, Katie Carville of Lisbon Falls; several nieces and nephews and her loving cat, Precious.
She was predeceased by her father, Roger Levesque Sr., a brother-in-law, Bobby Fleury; and a nephew, “KC” Carville.
Dori’s family would like to extend gratitude and appreciation to the nurses of CMMC, M1 who always made Dori feel like a princess when she was there and gave her amazing care. Dr. Rausch, the PAs, all of the “Sarahs,” his nurses, staff, especially those working in the infusion center, Lisbon Emergency and Androscoggin Hospice for making it possible for Dori to be home with her family during her last hours.
