LISBON — Susan (Cote) C. Matthews, 68, of Lisbon passed away peacefully Saturday, March 11, at her home.
She was born in Brunswick on Jan. 28, 1949, a daughter of the late Edmond and Cecile (Bouchard) Cote. She spent her early childhood in Brunswick and later moved to Lewiston at the age of 9, where she continued her schooling. She was a graduate of St. Dominic Regional High School, Class of 1967. After high school, Susan attended the University of Maine at Orono where she received her bachelor’s degree in education.
Susan worked in the field of education for 37 years and as of most recent, was the administrator of special needs in the Lisbon School Department. She retired in 2011.
Susan loved to read books, travel, go dancing and attend all sorts of concerts, plays and musicals. You could often find her in her gardens at home in the warmer months tending to the needs of all of her beautiful flowers. She also had a very strong passion for helping others. She would volunteer and participate in various walk-a-thons and fundraising activities in the community for the better of others. She was also a member of her own walk-about group that would meet every Tuesday and go walking on different paths and routes always exploring new destinations.
She is survived by her son, Eric Matthews of Lisbon; a sister, Lorette (Cote) Maillet and her husband, Ron, of Gray; and many nieces, nephews and close friends. She will also be sadly missed by her loving dog, Tootsie.
She was predeceased by her husband, Michael Matthews; a daughter, Jennifer Matthews; and a grandson, Kodi Matthews.
