TURNER — School Administrative District 52 Adult Education announces that Melanie North, adult basic education coordinator, has been awarded a national grant to attend the Coalition on Adult Basic Education national conference in April in Orlando, Florida.
North has been an educator for more than 15 years, is certified to teach English language arts (grades 7-12), general elementary (grades K-8), and adult education (grades 12+). She has completed the Global Career Development Facilitator training and is working toward completion of her WorkReady Facilitator certification.
As the only Maine recipient for this award, she hopes to bring back new ideas, innovative practices and relevant materials to share with other adult education practitioners in the state through staff development meetings and presenting at the statewide Maine Adult Education Association conference next year.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
