BRUNSWICK — The Merrymeeting Bay Chapter of Trout Unlimited will host a fly-tying workshop, March Brown Madness: Fly Tying with MMBTU, on Saturday, March 25, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Coastal Enterprises Inc., 30 Federal St.
McCauley Lord, author and world-renowned fly-casting instructor, will kick things off, talking about insects used as bait in fly-tying, including their life cycle of the insects that trout and salmon eat, and show a presentation of what bait lurks below the surface this time of year.
Steve DeWick, the chapter’s secretary said, “Mac will be up early, wading a stream, and he’ll scoop up water and bring the critters to us. We’ll put up a large screen so he can take a fly out of his box and then actually show us the live insect, magnified and projected above us, so we can compare the two.”
Later in the morning, Leslie Hilyard co-author with his dad, Graydon of “Carrie Stevens: Maker of Rangeley Favorite Trout and Salmon Flies,” will show us how Carrie Stevens tied her world-famous streamer flies.
Copies of the book will be for sale at the event.
