LEWISTON – Robert W. Philbrook, 88, of Greene died Aug. 21 at Marshwood Nursing Home as a result of a severe stroke.

He was born Feb. 22, 1917, in Greene, the son of Frank and Margaret Philbrook. He attended school in Greene and graduated from Leavitt Institute in Turner, Class of 1936.

He was a dairy farmer most of his life, operating Ledgeview Farm with his son, Bruce, until his death on July 27, 1976.

He married Eva Rose on Nov. 7, 1941.

He was a member of the Baptist Church of Greene, where he served many years as trustee, finance committee and on the ushering committee. He served on the Greene comprehensive planning committee, 23 years on the Greene conservation committee, planning board and budget committee. He was a member of the ASCS County committee for many years, past president of the extension service, past master of Androscoggin Grange 8 and past master of Monmouth Lodge of Masons.

In 1990, he received the Simon Greenleaf Medal for outstanding service in Masonry. He was a representative of the hospital visitation for the Masons at the Maine Veterans’ Home in Augusta for 15 years. He was an active member of the Greene Senior Citizens.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Philbrook of Lewiston; a grandson, Tony Philbrook of Greene; granddaughters, Beth Philbrook of Lewiston, and Pamela Syme and husband, Tony, of Wallingford, Conn.; great-grandson, Robert Bruce Syme; a sister, Marion Alden of Searsport; a brother-in-law, Harvey Rose and a sister in-law, Patricia Rose, both of Greene; and many nieces and nephews of which he was very fond.

He was predeceased by a brother, Frank C. Philbrook; and a son, Bruce Philbrook.
