NASHUA, N.H. — Roger Gardiner Stone, 86, of Nashua, passed away on Thursday, March 23.

He was born in Brockton, Mass., on April 30, 1930, son of the late Ruth E. (Gardiner) Stone and Roger E. Stone of Mansfield, Mass. 

Roger was educated in the public schools of Brockton, Mass., and Auburn. He graduated from Edward Little High School Class of 1949 and was a graduate of Bentley University.

He served proudly in the U.S. Navy for four years as a sonarman aboard the destroyers USS John A. Bole DD-775 and USS Charles J. Badger DD-657 and was a veteran of the Korean War.

Roger was employed by Electric Boat Co. of Groton, Conn., for a short time and the MITRE Corp. of Bedford, Mass., for 31 years. Prior to residing in Nashua, N.H., for the past 30 years; he lived in Carlisle, Mass., for 24 years, where he enjoyed serving as a police officer, EMT and was a volunteer on the fire department. After his retirement he and Betty enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Roger is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Betty Mae (Campbell) Stone. In addition, he is survived by his son, Dale A. Stone, his wife, Karen and their daughters, Katie and Jessica, all of Nashua, N.H.; his daughter, Dawn A. (Stone) Duff and her husband, Dennis, of Watertown, Mass.; his son, Richard D. Stone, his wife, Debra, and their daughters, Hanna of Stamford, Conn., Abby and Molly and their son, Dean, all of Somers, Conn. He is also survived by his two sisters-in-law, Donna (Campbell) Sweetser and Joyce (Ouellette) Campbell, both of Auburn; and one cousin, Robert Eldridge of Sarasota, Fla.

Roger was predeceased by his parents; also his parents-in-law, Thelma and Cecil Campbell; his two brothers-in-law, John Campbell, Dennis Sweetser; and his sister-in-law, Joan (Campbell) Libby and her husband, Richard Libby, all of Auburn.
