LEWISTON – Gregory R. Warren, 56, of 38 Bailey Ave., Lewiston, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Aug. 10, in his home.

Born on Feb. 4, 1949, in Concord, Mass., he grew up and went to school in the area near Boston. He served in the U.S. Army, before attending Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y., where he was awarded a bachelor’s degree in industrial design.

He was employed as an industrial designer by Raytheon Corp., and then Datamarine Industries for many years. He relocated to Falmouth, Mass., and there operated his own business before moving back to Concord, where he was employed by Composite Engineering Inc. At CEI, he was involved in building small fiberglass and composite racing boats designed by Ted Van Dusen.

In 2002, he moved to Lewiston to pursue a career in metal arts, a lifelong dream of his. He attended the New England School of Metal Working in Auburn, and enjoyed many classes in blacksmithing and welding.

In 2004, he opened his own metal shop, Old Crow Metal Arts, where he designed and created objects of function and beauty in steel, iron, copper, aluminum and other metals.

He is survived by his son, Thomas Dowd-Warren of Amherst, Mass.; and his companion, Susan Fourness of Lewiston.
