NORWAY — The Planning Board has approved a dance studio on the second floor of the building at 290 Main St.

Resident Nettie Gentempo told the board at a recent meeting that her studio will be above 290 Maine, a new bar that will be on the first floor of the building where the former Tucker’s Music Pub operated.

Gentempo said she is renting out the entire second floor as a dance studio, with a “small production or office space at the front of the building.”

She said the studio will be called “Nevaeh Dance Studio,” named after the dance company she performs in.

Planning Board member Michael Quinn asked Gentempo if she expected parking to be “tight with the new bar. I’m thinking there could be some parking issues,” he said.

Gentempo said she didn’t think the operating hours for the dance studio and 290 Maine would conflict.

“My hours will probably be right after school, or on Saturday mornings,” Gentempo said, adding, “Hopefully, the bar isn’t too busy on a Saturday morning.”

Planning Board member Anita Hamilton asked Gentempo if there were any renovations that had to be made before the studio could open.

“We’re pretty much finished right now,” Gentempo said. “We just laid down the new floor in the dance space, and we patched up the walls and painted them. There’s not a lot left to do.”

Chairman Dennis Gray asked Gentempo how many people she was hoping to teach at the studio.

“I’m hoping for a fair amount of (dance) lessons,” she said. “I’m thinking somewhere between 15 and 20 students for the first year, but I’m not sure. I probably won’t start offering lessons until the fall.”
