HONOLULU, Hawaii – Shirley E. Hannon of Honolulu, Hawaii, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 10, at her home after a long illness.
She was born Dec. 26, 1927, in Auburn, a daughter of Forest and Pauline Potter. She attended Auburn schools.
She was employed by the New England Telephone Co. (now Verizon) from September 1945, until her retirement on Jan. 1, 1984. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, the Elks Club in Auburn and Honolulu, Hawaii, and served as assistant to the newsletter editor of the Society of Military Widows Chapter 25 in Hawaii.
She was married to Robert Hannon from June 7, 1957, until his death in May 1979.
She and her husband, Bob, were world travelers, and were able to visit many different countries and enjoyed all of them. When they arrived in Hawaii they found the perfect place for their retirement, so they purchased a house and began to make their plans. Unfortunately, Bob died before he could enjoy the results of those plans.
Since she retired in January 1984, she enjoyed more than 20 years in the beautiful home they purchased and made many wonderful new friends in Hawaii.
She is survived by a brother, Robert Potter; a stepdaughter, Heather Leigh Hannon and her husband, James Gonzales; stepsons, Robert J. Hannon II, and Stephen M. Hannon and his wife, Pamela, and their children, Ethan, Nicky and Minda; and a nephew, Lawrence Perry, his wife, Susan Snow-Perry, and their sons, Christopher and Kyle.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Jean Perry and Gladys LaRock; and a brother, Forest Potter Jr.
