NORWAY – Kurt V. Palmer, 71, of Norway, died Thursday, July 14, at the Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway.
He was born in Norway, on June 3, 1934, the son of William and Winona (Young) Palmer.
He was a graduate of Norway High School in 1952 and Thomas College of Waterville in 1959.
On Sept. 5, 1959, he married Joyce Nelson.
He served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War.
Following in the footsteps of his mother and grandfather, he served as a selectman of the town of Norway for many years. He worked for Harris Bakery in Waterville, Pratts John Deere in Farmington, Whites Marina in Norway, owned Bridgton Plumbing Supply with his son, Jim, in Bridgton, and most recently worked for Aubuchon Hardware in Norway.
He and his wife, Joyce, maintained a deer farm in Norway, which attracted numerous visitors which he enjoyed talking too. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved Norway Lake and enjoyed his time fishing there.
He was a member of AA, and served as a mentor for more than 16 years to many people that were members of AA.
He was a people person; he loved to have people stop at his farm and enjoyed a good chat.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, of Norway; two sons, Jeff Palmer of Norway, and James Palmer and wife, Norma, of South Paris; two sisters, Rowena Palmer of Norway, and Paula Johnson and husband, Bruce, of Atlanta, Ga.; sister-in-law, Sandra Nelson of East Dixfield; two grandsons, Jonathan Palmer and Nicholas Palmer; and his trusted friend and companion, “Fannie Farkle,” his dog.
