RUMFORD – Raymond A. Powell, 53, of Congress Street, died Wednesday, June 15, at his residence.

He was born in Rumford, on June 22, 1951, a son of Beverly Ann (Garneau) and Richard Powell Jr.

He graduated from Peru Grammer School as valedictorian for grade 8. He then attended Gould Academy 1965 to 1968. He graduated from Stephens High School Class of 1969. He attended the University of Maine at Orono and graduated from the University of Maine Farmington with a degree in psychology.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served from 1976 to 1982.

Raymond loved the game of baseball, and was a charter player for Peru Little League wearing the No. 1 jersey. He continued playing ball in high school, Legion Ball, and Pine Tree League Baseball.

He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan who reminisced about every game with his mother who is a fan as well.

Surviving are his mother, Beverly A. Powell of Peru; brothers, Richard Powell and wife, Carol, of Peru, R. Thomas Powell and wife, Judy, of Rumford Center; a sister, Rebecca Powell of Farmington; a niece, Nicole Voter of Portland; nephews, Richard and Lucas Powell of Peru, and Matthew and Michael Cooley of Skowhegan.

He was predeceased by his father, Richard Powell Jr.
