Green and Mirror Pond Association

OXFORD — The Green and Mirror Pond Association in Oxford will have its annual meeting at 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, at the Oxford Recreational Center.

Current members, future members and the general public are invited.

The association will provide hamburgers from locally raised beef. All those attending are asked to bring a covered dish to be shared.

Whitecap Gourmet Hike July 29

RUMFORD — Mahoosuc Land Trust will lead the Whitecap Gourmet Hike Saturday, July 29.

Hikers will meet at 9 a.m. in the Whitecap parking lot on East Andover Road. They should bring food to share with other hikers. Sturdy shoes and bug repellent are recomended. In case of steady rain, the hike will be canceled.

Lavender presentation at McLaughlin Garden

PARIS — Glendarragh Lavender Farm will lead a special program on growing lavender at the McLaughlin Garden & Homestead.

This “scent-sational” workshop will introduce participants to growing and using lavender in Maine. The Glendarragh lavender fields are in Appleton and are hand-tended and fertilized with organic manure and limestone.

From scenting a room naturally to flavoring scones or seafood dishes, to using lavender oil as an antiseptic or burn salve, the myriad uses of a fragrant, versatile and time-tested herb will be discussed.

The workshop is free and open to the public and will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 30. Registration is required. Light refreshments will be served.
