PARIS — Community Concepts Finance Corp., working alongside the Northern Forest Center and Axiom Technologies of Machias, received a $78,600 grant for broadband internet planning from the ConnectME Authority.
According to its website, ConnectME Authority is a state government instrument that promotes the use of broadband service in Maine and attempts to disseminate information on it.
The grant was submitted by Northern Forest Center, a nonprofit organization with offices in Maine and New Hampshire, in partnership with Community Concepts Finance Corp. and Axiom Technologies of Machias.
Mia Purcell, economic development manager of Community Concepts Finance Corp., said that the grant targets Western Maine, including towns in the Norway, Rumford and Bethel areas.
She added that surveying people and businesses in those towns to learn what kind of internet services they use, and how happy people are with their services, will be “one of the first steps in the planning process.”
