100 years ago, 1917
There are three more laps, one might say, to complete the trolley line being laid from the Lisbon road at the junction of Pleasant street to the Campus avenue lines. Just now the workmen are busy at the turn on Webster street and are digging out the road-bed down the south side of the street. The next lap will be from Webster to East avenue, running north, and the last one from East avenue west to Campus avenue and Sabattus street.

50 years ago, 1967
It was music, the finest around. But not at sea, although it could have been. That would be one way to sum up the final Sunday night Kennedy Park band concert of the season by the Montagnard Band of Lewiston. The band was playing, among numerous selections, the popular “Victory at Sea” when the rains came. And it poured. The scores of persons on hand scattered quickly. Some headed for home, many sat in their cars and tooted their horns after a selection was completed, and then a handful stayed seated to enjoy it all. It rained, it thundered, and the lightning came — but the band, under the direction of Robert P. Rabassa, played on. And shortly after 9 p.m. the final selection of the season was played as the group presented “Stars and Stripes Forever.”

25 years ago, 1992
Androscoggin County officials are considering buying a boat and trailer to help in the war on drugs and are looking at making the purchase with funds from assets forfeited in drug cases. Commissioner Henry Bernier raised the idea at Wednesday’s commission meeting, as a way to find and seize marijuana plots along the Androscoggin River and on islands in the county’s lakes. “Those islands are targeted (by growers),” Bernier said. He and Commissioner Emile Jacques voted to go out to bid for a boat, a motor and a trailer. The county has been without a boat for years, since the sale of a small aluminum boat that Sheriff Ronald Gagnon described Wednesday as “tippy.”
