The Master Plumbers Association of Lewiston-Auburn received notice Monday from the Plumbers and Steam Fitters union asking an increase in wages from 44 to 50 cents an hour and double pay for overtime. They also demand a closed shop which signifies that only union men be employed. They will work only with union men. They have given the Master Plumbers Association until Monday to accept or reject the proposition. A member of the Master Plumbers Association when questioned by the Journal said “At the present time we think that it is uncalled for. There is but very little building and an increase of cost at this time will be an added burden to the already overtaxed public.” The plumbers feel that with the increased cost of living they are entitled to a rise in pay.

A pair of World War II airplanes used to train fighter pilots will be the featured attraction at a special history and air show at the Auburn-Lewiston Airport later this month. The North American T-6 Texans will be on display throughout the day and will perform a special flying routine. Two other planes, both four-engine Lockheed Aircraft Corp. Constellations, will also be opened up and on display. “This is our way to share the excitement of aviation with the people of Lewiston-Auburn and the surrounding communities,” Airport Manager Richard W. Nutall said Tuesday.
