Oxford County Democrats barbecue

BRYANT POND — The Oxford County Democrats will have the annual summer barbecue on Sunday, Aug. 27, at 4:30 p.m. at the UMaine 4-H School and Learning Center in Bryant Pond.

This is a great opportunity for local Democrats to meet the head of the Democratic Party in Maine, Phil Bartlett, and talk with emerging candidates for political offices.

Cost is $20 for the meal, with vegetarian options.

LOCKE MILLS — Texas Hold’em Tournament will be played Monday, Aug. 28, at Jackson-Silver Post, American Legion, 595 Gore Road.

Doors will open at 5 p.m., and games begin at 7 p.m.

Snacks and beverages available. The hall is air-conditioned.

SeniorsPlus holding satellite hours

NORWAY — SeniorsPlus will be in Norway from noon to 4 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, at the Norway Town Office.

Representatives will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns community members may have about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families.

Farmington Historical Society meeting 

FARMINGTON — Farmington Historical Society will meet at 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 28, the North Church, 118 High St.

The annual Franklin County historical societies will get together to share ideas and successful projects from the past year. 

The potluck meal will be followed by a short meeting.

‘Essentials of College Planning’

WILTON — The Maine Educational Opportunity Center will host a free workshop, “Essentials of College Planning,” for adults 19 and older from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at the Wilton CareerCenter, 865 U.S. Route 2 East.

This workshop introduces people to educational opportunities in general and MEOC services in particular. It touches on the four steps in the college process: admissions, financial aid, career and study skills. The financial aid portion of this workshop will provide an overview of financial basics and the completion of the Free Application of Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). 

The class is free, but registration is required.

Finishing first in flight A E/W were Ed Bower and Mike True; second in A and first in B and C, Diana and Frank Ferland; third in A and second in B and C, Jim Dickens and Denny Raymond; fourth in B and third in C, Pat Soule and Georgette Jewell.

Games are played at 9:15 a.m. on Fridays in the Oxford Recreation building on King Street. A partner is guaranteed, and all players are welcome.
