Lisbon student receives cholarship
STONINGTON, Conn. — Steven Hammerton of Lisbon has received a Coast Guard Foundation scholarship. He will attend Northeastern University this fall.
The scholarships benefit the children of enlisted men and women who are serving or have served in the U.S. Coast Guard, whether active duty, reserve, retired or deceased.
Hammerton is the son of Steven Hammerton, damage control chief petty officer.
The nonprofit organization has awarded a record 166 scholarships this year. Combined with 10 multi-year scholarship recipients and three Fallen Heroes Scholars, the Foundation is supporting 179 students with half a million dollars.

Cribbage league to play
LEWISTON — Lewiston Senior Citizens Cribbage League will start Thursday, Aug. 31, for winter play.
Doors will open at 8 a.m., and games will begin at 9 a.m.
The league plays through April, but games are played year-round.

History barn open house
NEW GLOUCESTER — The New Gloucester Historical Society will next hold the monthly New Gloucester History Barn Open House from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 2, at 383 Intervale Road behind the town hall.
The open house is free and open to the public.
