Rumford Elementary school planning open houses

RUMFORD — The Rumford Elementary School will have open houses for students and their families on Monday, Aug. 28. 

The kindergarten open house will be held from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. At 5:15 p.m., kindergartners will take a short bus ride. 

The open house for students in grades first through fifth grade will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. 

Both open houses will begin with ice cream socials in the cafeteria and give families an opportunity to visit the child’s classroom. 

Families may complete the Community Eligibility Lunch form for free breakfast and lunch.

The school will have a limited quantity of backpacks and school supplies for families in need. 

Texas Hold’em night at AMVETS 

PARIS — AMVETS Post 777 will sponsor a Texas Hold’em poker tournament from 5 p.m. to midnight on the first Friday of the month at the American Legion Hall, located at 22 Church St.

This event is open to the public. The AMVETS Auxiliary will have a food concession open from 5 p.m. until the end of second break. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Buy-in is usually $50 with a license fee of $5 and an optional $5 High Hand.

SeniorsPlus office hours 

FARMINGTON — The SeniorsPlus office will be open for scheduled appointments Wednesdays from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Walk-in hours are from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will be held on the second Thursday of every month.

Staff will be on hand to answer any questions or concerns about services and resources for older adults and adults with disabilities and their families. These services are free and open to the public.

Fall Fun 5k for Special Olympics

JAY — The Franklin County inaugural Fall Fun 5k Walk and Run to benefit the Special Olympics of Franklin County will take place rain or shine on Saturday, Sept. 23.

The event will start at 170 Main St. and end at French Falls. The fee to enter is $25; ages 10 and younger are free.

Blouin Family Reunion celebrated

PERU — The annual family reunion of Felix and Albertine Blouin is celebrated each year on the first Sunday in August at Worthley Pond. This year was the 45th celebration.

This year, the family celebrated Wilfred and Peggy Blouin’s 50th wedding anniversary and Jon and Doris Blouin Gline’s 25th wedding anniversary. There were 125 attending from Florida, Michigan, Connecticut, New Hampshire, New York and all parts of Maine.
