DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’m looking for a bugler to play taps at a World War II veteran’s funeral on Saturday, Sept. 16, at about 11:30 a.m. in Auburn. The Honor Guard will provide a recording, but this veteran deserves a live version. Please contact Sue at 860-805-8556. Thank you.

ANSWER: Readers, please reach out to Susan if you can be of service! Because time is of the essence, Susan, you may want to contact Lewiston’s Vet Center at 877-927-8387. They may be able to recommend someone. There is also an organization called Buglers Across America (www. buglersacrossamerica.org). To reserve a bugler, go to the website and complete the form.

With the service coming up so quickly, you may want to consider contacting a local high school and speaking to the band director. A band student might be your answer to a more meaningful send-off for your veteran. Because you live out of state, I’m providing you with contact information for local high schools. Edward Little High School: 207-333-6652; Lewiston High School: 207-795-4190; Lisbon High School: 207-353-3030; Mt. Ararat High School: 207-729-2953.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Western Maine Addiction Recovery Initiative will host the second annual Western Maine Recovery Rally on Saturday, Sept. 9. The event will rally people to show community support for those in recovery from substance-use disorders, and volunteers are sought to help with the planning and coordination of the event.

Sponsorships and donations are also needed. A great deal of work is involved, including marketing, securing donations, making signs and setting up for the rally. Want to know how you can help? Please contact Brendan Schauffler at 739-6222. More information can also be found on the Western Maine Addiction Recovery Initiative’s Facebook page.

ANSWER: According to a Western Maine Addiction Recovery Initiative news release, “Substance use, especially the use of heroin and opiates, is a crisis gripping western Maine. Overdose deaths were at an all-time high in 2015, but this record high was eclipsed in 2016, with 386 lives lost.” So many families have been affected by drug use and its multiple repercussions. Please come out to support those who are in the trenches providing support for people in the midst of their recovery process.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: My brother, Jim, is looking for yearbooks from Edward Little High School 1970 and Oxford Hills High School 1967 and 1969. He has contacted both schools, but they don’t have them. Please call Jim Swift in Buckfield, 336-2026.

ANSWER: Your local library is an incredible resource and it just so happens that Auburn Public Library has ELHS yearbooks for every year going back to 1908. The number is 333-6640. Norway Memorial Library has the 1969 Oxford Hills yearbook you are looking for. You can reach that library at 743-5309. These are for viewing in the library only. Of course, readers, if you have these yearbooks, it could be fun to connect with Jim and share memories. I love going through mine every so often.
