AUBURN — A Poland man was arrested Wednesday morning after crashing a car and leading police on a foot chase along Kittyhawk Avenue.
Ryan Merrill, 26, was charged with eluding police after officers with tracking dogs found and arrested him around noon.
A Maine State Police trooper began chasing Merrill when he refused to stop his car at about 11:45 a.m. on Kittyhawk Avenue, police said. The chase lasted about six minutes before Merrill crashed into a ditch and took off on foot.
Auburn and Maine State Police were joined by Androscoggin County Sheriff’s deputies in the search for the suspect. He was found shortly after the crash, arrested and taken to the Androscoggin County Jail where he remained Wednesday night.
In addition to the charge of eluding, Merrill was arrested on warrants charging him with failure to appear in court and failure to pay fines. Bail was set at $1,160 cash.
