BAY SHORE, N.Y. – Father Maurice A. Landry, S.M.M., 90, dean of the American Province of the Montfort Missionaries, died on March 24, the feast day of the priesthood, in the 69th year of his religious life.
He was born Aug. 23, 1914, in Lewiston. He was the son of the late Armand Landry and Marie-Louise (Levasseur) Landry.
Retired from active ministry, he resided at the Montfort Spiritual Center in Bay Shore, N.Y. Always dedicated to nursery work, he was responsible for the extensive planting and floral growth on the retreat grounds at the Center.
Ordained in 1941, his many years of ministry included seminary professor for more than 30 years in Litchfield, Conn., and Bay Shore, N.Y., and spiritual director to the daughters of Wisdom. He also served as associate pastor at Infant Jesus Church in Port Jefferson N.Y., Sacred Heart Church in Danville, Va., and St. Mary Gate of Heaven Church in Ozone Park, N.Y.
He is survived by his sister, Annonciade Theriault of Lewiston; three nephews, Maurice Theriault and his wife, Diane, of Lewiston, Richard Theriault and his wife, Barbara, of Auburn and Roger Theriault and his wife, Lorraine, of Greene; two nieces, Diane Fortin and her husband, Gerry, of Raymond and Rachel St. Pierre and her husband, Michael, of Lewiston; and sixteen great-nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his brother-in-law and great friend, Gerard Theriault; and a great-nephew, Tony St.Pierre.
