A Winthrop man Thursday pleaded guilty to a charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Jonathan Bowers, 29, pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to the charge and now awaits sentencing.
According to court records, on April 9, 2016, Bowers had a 9 mm pistol at a car repair shop in Chelsea. Bowers was prohibited from possessing firearms because of seven felony convictions for burglary and theft.
If Bowers is found to be an armed career criminal, he faces a stiffer sentence of between 15 years and life in prison, up to five years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Kennebec County Sheriff’s Office.
