AUBURN – Georgette Muguette (Saindon) Genest, 88, formerly of 15 Malo St., Lewiston, died Thursday March 3, unexpectedly at her residence at Schooner Estates.
She was born on Nov. 18, 1916, in New Auburn, the daughter of Alphonse and Rose (Bouvier) Saindon.
She attended Auburn schools and graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1934. She then attended Bliss College in Lewiston. For many years, she was associated with her father, the founder of A.P. Saindon Insurance Agency of Auburn. Under his tutelage, she became a licensed insurance agent and then attended the University of Southern Maine to complete her studies to become a licensed real estate broker. A few years later she was employed by Central Maine Medical Center. At that time she was sent to the IBM Computer Program School in Boston, and thus became the data processing computer programmer of the hospital until her retirement.
She was always an active member of the Democratic Party Women’s Activities as an officer, and was also past officer of the Knights of Columbus Council 106, Fourth Degree Wallace Assembly Wives, and a member of its Auxiliary. She was also a member of Holy Cross Parish and the Ala-Bel-Coh Club.
On June 17, 1939, she married Paul L. Genest former register of probate of Androscoggin County at St. Louis Church. He died on Jan. 5, 1996.
She enjoyed playing cards. She and her late husband, Paul, were avid travelers to Europe and Hawaii. She took particular pleasure in holidays and especially enjoyed her yearly visits to Moosehead Lake with her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Jocelyn G. Pinard of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; her son, John and his family, wife, Pamela, and their daughter, Angelique of Fort Worth, Texas, her daughter, Anne and her family, husband, Hal Gill, and their daughter, Isabelle of Boston; a son, Claude J. Genest, and his family, wife, Emily, and their son, Paul William Genest all of San Diego, and their daughters, Aisha and her husband, Dan Gibson, of Japan, and Charmaine Genest of Sumter, S.C.; a son, Emil and his family, wife, Rebecca Genest, and their children, Ryan and Morgan Riley, all of Brewer.
She was predeceased by a special son-in-law, Bertrand J. Pinard, who died on Aug. 9, 2004; and by a sister, Yolande Lafayette.
