LEWISTON – Allegra A. Lee McLean, 76, of Rumford, died Wednesday, Feb. 16, at the Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston, from head injuries sustained in a fall. She had made her home on Washington Street, Rumford, for many years.
She was born in Portland, Nov. 4, 1928, the daughter of Eric and Ellen (Estes) Anderson.
She graduated from South Portland High School, Westbrook Junior College in 1948, and the University of Maine, Class of 1950.
Allegra was a high school English teacher and taught in Mexico and Rumford High Schools for several years.
She was a member of the Search Light Club, the local book club, the Rumford Garden Club, and had a great interest in theater and art. Lee was an active member of the Congregational Church, in Mexico, and especially interested in missions.
She was married in Portland, on Aug. 28, 1950, to the late Malcolm D. (Mac) McLean, Sr., who died in South Paris, on Dec. 20, 2001.
Survivors include two sons, Timothy McLean of Hamilton, Mass., and Malcolm McLean, Jr. of Locke Mills; two daughters, Deborah McLean of Freeport, and Erica Helm of Rochester, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Aaron and Benjamin Turkel, Mercedes McLean, Zachary, Patrick, Ian, and Christopher Helm.
