LISBON FALLS – Sarah Catherine Simmons, 84, a resident of Vining St., died Sunday morning at her home following a short illness, surrounded by her family.
She was born in Smyna Mills, Aug. 7, 1920, the daughter of Matthew and Martha F. (Sherwood) Knee, and was educated in the schools of Island Falls.
On July 7, 1956, she married Lester E. Simmons. He and her three daughters, Althea, Olene, and Martha Parker, died March 10, 1959. She was employed for many years as a twister, and in the coning department at Worumbo Mill, retiring in 1979.
She enjoyed watching television, but most of all enjoyed the time spent with her family, including her grandchildren, great, and great-great-grandchildren, and was known to everyone as Grammie.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce E. Arnold of Lisbon Falls; two granddaughters, Mrs. Robert R. (Janna) Card of Bowdoin, and Mrs. Leonard (Althea) Davis of Lisbon Falls; six great-grandchildren, Jason and Samatha Davis of Lisbon, Mrs. Gregory (Amanda Davis’) Knight Allenhurst, Ga., Ryan and his wife, Lindsey, Robbie and Cara Card of Bowdoin, and Nicole Laird of Topsham; three great-great-grandchildren, Caden and Kylie Laird of Topsham, and Rebecca Davis of Lisbon; and two yet to be born great-great-grandsons in the spring.
