STRONG – Marguerite L. Norris, 94, of Strong, died Thursday afternoon, Jan. 27, at her home in Strong.
She was born March 25, 1910, a daughter of Fred and Ida (Heath) Leavitt. She graduated from Phillips High School and the Farmington Normal School.
A devoted teacher and former Trustee of the Strong School District, she also was a partner in the R.D. Norris Clothing and Varieties Store in Strong and Dixfield for 20 years.
For 51 years, she served the Town as either Deputy Clerk or Town Clerk, having assumed the responsibility of her husband during his military service during World War II.
She was a life member of the Oppalunski Chapter, OES and the Strong Historical Society. She was also a member of the Phillips High School Alumni Association.
She is survived by her son, Peter Leavitt Norris and his wife, Donna, of Canton; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was predeceased by her husband and sibilings, Marcia Edes Aldrich, Ruth Kinney, Morris, Hollis and Estine Leavitt.
